Pre Race Blog from Ambassador Mark
Yessssssssssssssssss – I am so excited, running events are back!
I cannot wait to be on the start line of this year’s Kielder Marathon, ready to take on the trails over 26.2 miles around the stunning landscape of Kielder Reservoir.
It has been a very difficult few months for so many people, but the news that organised running events are back shows that we are making great progress and things are looking positive.
In order to keep in shape and focused for future races I set out on a few of my own little challenges, the main one being Hadrian’s Wall. In April I set off with my friend Matt Walker to run the full length of Hadrian’s Wall over two days, starting at Bowness of Solway and finishing at Wallsend.
It was a brilliant test of my ability and an even better way of exploring our beautiful area. Although tough going on the legs with a lot of vertical climbs, my favourite section was certainly Sycamore Gap for breath-taking views.
After this ultra triumph I had to wind down and take it easy, making sure to rest my legs, seek treatment and build up strength through yoga and a lot of walking.
Which took me on to my next adventure, the National 3 Peaks. Earlier this month I was joined by my brothers and some friends as we hiked Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon all within 24 hours – all of this certainly helps when training for the hills of the Kielder course.
I don’t have any real target for the Kielder Marathon in terms of finishing time, I’m just thrilled to be back running an amazing event – so hopefully see you there.
