Kielder Run Bike Run Ambassador – Mark Warner

Right then, approx 7 months to go until Kielder Run-Bike-Run 2020!  I’m from a mainly running background but I’m starting to try some duathlons and completed Kielder RBR 2019.  It’s a stunning setting and a great atmosphere and I’m looking forward to going again this year.

I’m not looking at any specific form of training yet – I’d just like to focus on the basics at this stage – keep injury free, build up some general strength and fitness.

I’ve got a turbo trainer in the garage and I’ve been on this a bit over the winter.  I’m looking forward to getting some fresh air on the bike and will one heading up to Kielder for some laps of the reservoir – a great ride.

I really need to get out running more!  I’ve been doing an occasional long run, but I’ve got no routine – I haven’t done any hill work or speed sessions for ages (after a knee injury that I’m still trying to get my confidence back from).

Now I’ve started with my blogs, I hope it will spur me on to more training so I’ve got more to report on!

I live in Durham and I’m a member of Elvet Striders, so I’m lucky that Kielder isn’t too far away.  I haven’t been down to club nights for a while, but we’ve got a great range of sessions so that should help motivate me too.

My wife, Louise, participated in Kielder RBR last year and will be back for more in 2020 (mind you I haven’t seen her on her bike since!) and at least one of our children will be doing the children’s runs at Kielder over the same weekend.
