“I never dreamed I would get the running bug and still be running now!”

Katie at this year’s Durham City Run

28 year old Katie Davison, a transport planner from County Durham is a big fan of Kielder, and she was our perfect choice to be ambassador for this year’s Active Northumberland Kielder Half Marathon. Find out more about Katie here:

“I’ve been running about 4 years. I started with Couch to 5K and never dreamed I would get the running bug and still be running now! In 2016 I completed my first Great North Run, but I never dreamed I would be a marathon runner.

It’s not easy to choose my biggest three running achievements but I’d say:

1. Running Valencia marathon 2. My 5k PB of 26:35 3. Running parkrun on my wedding day!

Kielder Half is the most beautiful half marathon route I have ever ran and I’ve ran it every year since 2016. It is the highlight in my running calendar. It’s such a well-organised event and the WI cake tent at the end is the best half marathon recovery!

I love taking part in Events of the North Races – I’ve done all Prince Bishop Durham City Run 10K events, Sunderland 10K back in 2016 and 3 Kielder Half Marathons. It’s amazing to be taking part this year as an EOTN ambassador. This year I’d like to beat my time of 2:35, but I just want to enjoy the day.

I have so many people who inspire me to run. My friends are the real heroes to me. They all have full time jobs and yet still find the time to train and complete marathons and ultras. They’re the true heroes.”
